Vlaams Belang says it is disappointed about the new administrative agreement that N-VA and Vooruit presented on Saturday morning at Antwerp city hall. The cordon sanitary has ensured that the N-VA has fallen head over heels for the socialist demands of Vooruit,” says Filip Dewinter.
According to Dewinter, “Patrick Janssens’ party” won just about everything it could get. “The N-VA voter who hoped for more safety and quality of life and less alienation is once again worth the effort. The N-VA program appears to be completely sold out. This is the Janssens agreement.”
Vlaams Belang refers, among other things, to the plans for a tunnel under the Scheldt quays, which were discarded. “More high-rise buildings, more practical tests, more fines for minor speeding violations and a lot of tax money from Antwerp residents that goes to the diversity and multicultural industry. Under the guise of ‘function clothing’, the headscarf will also appear behind the city counters again. The socialist program is more firmly anchored than ever before,” says party leader Sam van Rooy.
Dewinter also believes that the new city council is doing too little to limit the ongoing drug violence, such as systematic identity checks. “People seem to be resigned to the raging drug war. Even in drug-sensitive neighborhoods, police stations remain accessible by appointment only.”
Finally, the party fears that the announcement of 7,500 new social homes will in practice only serve “to accommodate even more fortune seekers”. “A tightening of the criteria for social housing (Dutch language knowledge, minimum residence in Flanders or Antwerp, integration conditions, etc.) is not an option.”
