Zakaria Aboukhlal allowed Toulouse to secure a crucial victory against Saint-Étienne (2-1) during the 15th day of Ligue 1, Friday December 13.
Zakaria Aboukhlal scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute, when the score was tied (1-1). Saint-Étienne opened the scoring in the 53rd minute thanks to Lucas Stassin, before Xavi Babicka equalized for Toulouse two minutes later.
Thanks to this success, Toulouse climbs to 8th place in the ranking with 21 points, while Saint-Étienne remains in 16th position with 13 points.
This goal is Aboukhlal’s fifth this season in 15 appearances in Ligue 1. The Moroccan player is also targeted by Turkish club Trabzonspor for the next winter transfer window.
Arriving in Toulouse in the summer of 2022 from AZ Alkmaar, Aboukhlal quickly shone. He established himself as a key element of the Moroccan selection, contributing to the historic feat of the Atlas Lions by reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
His memorable goal against Belgium (2-0) in the group stage propelled him to the rank of national hero. Back at club, he helped Toulouse win the Coupe de France, notably scoring in the final against Nantes (5-1). He concluded the 2022-2023 season with 10 goals in Ligue 1 and 4 others in the Coupe de France.
