Snow and sleet are expected most of the time, and rain on the coast. In Vidzeme and Latgale, a small layer of snow will have already formed on Saturday morning, but by Sunday evening it will reach 5-7 centimeters in many parts of eastern Latvia.
Air temperatures in the eastern part of the country will be mostly -4 C to 0 degrees at night and during the day, and 0 to +5 C elsewhere in Latvia.
Strong winds are also expected over the weekend. On Saturday, south-westerly winds will gust at 10-15 meters per second, up to 20 meters per second on the coast, and on Sunday, north-westerly winds gusting up to 20-24 meters per second on the coast.
The weather will become much warmer next week. Temperatures will reach +1 C to +6 C on Monday, and +7 C to +8 C in parts of Kurzeme and central parts of the country. Temperatures will be mostly above freezing throughout next week, with only a little frost occasionally.
Current forecasts indicate that it won’t get much colder over Christmas, with neither persistent frost nor snow cover likely.
