Season 5 of Astrid and Raphaëlle, which is currently broadcast on France 2, put the character played by Sara Mortensen to the test. Astrid had to face the demons of her past when the mysterious Sammy resurfaced.
Throughout the season, she was haunted by this man without really knowing why. In episode 5, however, we learned that she had met him in an equestrian center when she was a teenager.
Unfortunately, she no longer has any memories of this period. Episode 7, which is broadcast this Friday, December 13 on France 2, will however allow Astrid to find answers to this mystery.
Astrid regains her memory
In this new opus, Astrid and Raphaëlle go to a prestigious stable to investigate the murder of a horse, which was stabbed. However, the case will get tougher for the two investigators when another crime is suddenly committed.
A new investigation which will allow Astrid to confront her memories. She will in fact remember that she had worked in a stable when she was a teenager, and that she had suffered violence from a person who worked there.
Sammy, who is also autistic, came to his rescue. This therefore explains why she had blocked him from her memory: he was associated with sad memories for Astrid. An episode which allows us to discover a new facet of the consultant’s past, and which also sheds light on the violence that autistic people can sometimes suffer because of their differences.
The importance of talking about violence
To write the scenarios for the Astrid and Raphaëlle episodes, the authors call on consultants suffering from autism who give them advice in order to best stick to reality. During an interview with Alexandre de Seguins, screenwriter on the detective series, AlloCiné asked him if the story around Astrid had been inspired by one of these consultants.
“These are indeed testimonies that inspired us”, he explained to us. “To be completely honest, the idea didn’t start from there, but when we started working on this arch, it very quickly became apparent to us. It was important to address this subject.“
“In the series, we show the journey of Astrid, for whom everything is going well in the best of all possible worlds. She now has her place in the criminal squad, and people understand her difference. Everyone behaves towards her the way people should behave in real life.“
“We wanted to have the opportunity to balance things and bear witness to this violence. Autistic people are victims of violence and harassment. It’s a fact, it’s documented and it’s even quantified. So it was important for a series like ours to be the vector of this message.”
