Sophie Vénétitay, general secretary of the National Union of Secondary Education (SNES) of the Unitary Trade Union Federation (FSU), believes that François Bayrou, minister of education between 1993 and 1997 and now prime minister, will have to “quickly appreciate the seriousness of the situation for a school that is collapsing”she told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
For her part, Guislaine David, joint general secretary and spokesperson for the National Unitary Union of Teachers, School Teachers and PEGC (SNUipp-FSU), warns that if Mr. Bayrou and his or her future minister of education want “calm the anger of teachers, we will have to reopen the file of salaries and working conditions”. She also calls for “cancel the “clash of knowledge””a policy started by Gabriel Attal during his visit to rue de Grenelle, and continued by Nicole Belloubet and Anne Genetet, which notably provides for the establishment of level groups (called “need groups”).
Grégoire Ensel, vice-president of the FCPE, the main organization of parents, expressed hope to AFP “a reforming, progressive vision of public schools, equipped with means and clear objectives” and which ceases to be “the school of competition”.
As a reminder, Michel Barnier’s government planned in its budget some 4,000 teacher job cuts, which was widely denounced in a well-attended movement of strikes and demonstrations last week.
