If you’re currently subscribing to YouTube TV, brace yourself. It’s about to become a lot more expensive.
The Google-owned company announced on Thursday that the monthly cost of its subscription service will rise by 14 percent, or $10 more, to a total of $82.99 a month.
New subscribers will pay that new price immediately, but current subscribers won’t see a change in their bill until Jan. 14.
YouTube said that it was the rising cost of content was the chief reason for the price hike, the New York Times reported.
“We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this has an impact on our members,” the company said in a message to subscribers, per The Hill. “We are committed to bringing you features that are changing the way we watch live TV, like unlimited DVR storage and multiview, and supporting YouTube TV’s breadth of content and vast on-demand library of movies.”
The company added that anyone paying a discounted rate or was on a trial subscription would not be affected until that promotional period ended.
YouTube TV cost $35 a month when it debuted in 2017. It went up to $50 a month in 2019 and then to $72.99 in 2023.
The service will not be adding any additional channels as part of the price increase, the New York Times said. It currently offers over 100 traditional network and cable channels, a DVR service and the ability to have six accounts for one household.
