The ruling military regime in Algeria exceeded all limits and committed acts that have nothing to do with humanity. It was stripped of all meanings of neighborliness and brotherhood, until it violated the sanctity of the dead, which was recommended by the true Islamic religion.
The matter did not stop there. Rather, the despicable act reached an unprecedented level when the body of the Moroccan player Abdel Latif Akhrif was detained for several months, in behavior that does not befit any human being.
The tragic story begins on July 6, 2024, when the young Moroccan Akhrif and his friend Salman Al-Harrak drowned off the coast of Restinka Beach near the city of M’diq, while three others survived.
The incident was a shock to everyone who knew the player and his family, and sadness was widespread among all football fans in Morocco.
Akherif’s body was found last August near the coast of Cape Falcon in Algeria, causing a wave of grief among his family members and followers.
But worse than that, was what the Algerian regime did after this tragic incident, as the Algerian authorities decided to detain the body for months before releasing it late yesterday evening, Thursday, across the land border in the “Pair of Mules” in Oujda.
This incident was a turning point in exposing the baseness of the Algerian military regime, which refused to do anything except appear in the worst possible image before the world.
This regime, which has continued to suffer from isolation on the international scene, reflects its miserable behavior towards the body of a person who was a victim of a tragic accident, which confirms the absence of all meanings of humanity and chivalry.
What the Algerian regime did exposes the abhorrent politicization of the dead, and reveals the extent of the decline in morals in this military regime, which acts as if it has the upper hand over the lives and deaths of people.
If the policy has weakened relations between countries, this behavior shows that the Algerian regime has reached a stage of moral decadence that cannot be accepted.
Brotherhood between peoples should not be subject to politics or partisan agendas, but this regime has clearly shown that it does not care about these deep human values, even in moments of grief and loss.
