Concern is growing in Mayotte as the cyclone approaches. The red alert could be triggered. The government sent aid on Friday, December 13.
A few hours before the arrival of Cyclone Chido, nothing in the sky over Mayotte suggests what awaits the island and its inhabitants. However, everywhere the population is active and preparing. In the gardens, trees that threaten houses are cut down. A mathematics teacher has taken all measures to weather the storm as best as possible. In town, supermarkets see trolleys filled with provisions, bottles to prevent water cuts and food for several days.
The cyclone and its winds of more than 200 kilometers per hour are expected to hit the island on Saturday, December 14. The fishermen have already been instructed to stay on land. Several accommodation centers are preparing to welcome victims while waiting for the cyclone to pass. What particularly worries the authorities are the poor neighborhoods.
