According to corroborating sources, Akhrif’s body was handed over to the Moroccan authorities, at the Zouj Bghal border post, during the night of Thursday to Friday, December 13. Akhrif, accompanied by a few teammates and other relatives, undertook a sea excursion on July 6. Tragically, the weather turns bad off Restinga beach and the boat sinks. The body of the Ittihad Tangier player then ends up on the other side of the border.
The Royal Gendarmerie, a few days later, provided a DNA statement from the player’s parents, before transmitting it to the other side of the eastern border. But waiting for the results, or even a response, was an ordeal for Akhrif’s family, his club, his friends and a large part of Moroccans. Today, the player’s remains can finally rest near his family and his family can finally mourn.
