Informed sources revealed to “Hesport” that the Algerian authorities have completed all administrative arrangements to hand over to the Kingdom of Morocco the body of the late Abdel Latif Akhrif, who played during his lifetime for the Tangier Club.

The sources indicated that the Moroccan authorities will receive, tonight, the body of Abdel Latif Akhrif through one of the border crossings in the city of Oujda, to be transported to his hometown in Tangier immediately afterward to begin burial procedures.

Informed sources had revealed to “Hesport” details of the work carried out by the Moroccan authorities and their Algerian counterparts since the body of Abdel Latif Akhrif, a former player for Ittihad Tangier, was found on the coast of the city of Oran, on the eighth of last August, beginning with the procedures for identifying the body and completing the procedures for identifying the body. Legal procedures necessary to transport the body to Morocco.

The same sources indicated that the Moroccan authorities, represented by the Royal Gendarmerie, sent, on August 14, 2024, a sample of the DNA of the parents of the player Abdellatif Akhrif to the Algerian authorities to conduct a comparison with the DNA of the discovered body. After more than 100 days of waiting, on November 28, 2024, the Moroccan side received a report from the Algerian Consulate General in Casablanca, which confirmed that there was a high probability that the body belonged to Akhrif.

According to the same report, on December 2, 2024, the Moroccan Consulate in Oran requested the Algerian Public Prosecution to issue a death certificate and a permit to transport the body to Morocco, where his family and loved ones await his burial in the homeland.

It is worth noting that Abdellatif Akhrif, a former player for Ittihad Tangier, has been missing since last July 6 after the “boat tour” tragedy on the coast of the city of Tetouan, along with five individuals belonging to Ittihad Tangier Club. Three of them were rescued, before a body appeared. Abdul Latif Akhrif on the Algerian coast a month after the accident, without the procedures for handing over his body to his family for burial yet to be completed. While no traces of the other player, Salman Al-Harrak, have appeared until now.
