How would you describe the 15-year-old program?
“It’s a qualitative, eclectic program that will give our audience a lot of pleasure. We are very committed to giving our festival-goers concerts that make them want to come back. We have quite a few loyal fans, we notice it on the ticket sales which are a hit even before the program is revealed.
The recipe we apply remains the same: rap, electro, techno artists for the youngest and French varieties for the older audience. You have to find that balance. »
How is the selection of the programming carried out?
“The research began in May 2024. We need to know what is going to turn out, know the artists who are releasing albums… We exchange with 80 to 90 artists, or even a little more during this period. We have several ideas and we are very up to date with current artists. We also talk a lot with the people around us to find out what they are listening to. [Romain est membre d’une commission dédiée composée de treize personnes, NDLR]. I go to concerts and see if the audience is interested.
The DNA of the festival is: “I’m going to see, I’m going to have fun”. We have been following musical projects for several years. During her first tour, we missed Clara Luciani. We were patient, the turners know that. This painstaking work accumulates over time, we pay for it with the trust they place in us.
Every year, we try to do well by focusing on rarity. In 2025, the 4-5 main artists will only have one or two dates in Brittany. We put all our strength into the projects we believe in. We're not the richest but we're smart and we manage to put out programming that suits us. »
What is the secret to having a great festival lineup?
“To please as many people as possible. Music is part of my daily life. For me, all the names are known. We have to take a step back because the general public probably only knows 4-5 names. So good programming is names that speak to the general public and above all musical projects that please and bring people together. We don't have too many barriers or artistic lines. This is what makes the recipe and the reputation of the festival. »
Are the negotiations to bring artists to Bobital difficult?
“This year, it’s complicated. Artist fees have again increased considerably. We are in constant competition with other countries with significant financial resources. You have to find a balance. In seven years, I'm familiar with it now, but it's been a complicated year! »
Who are the artists not to be missed during this next edition?
“Firstly, the Lamomali show. It will be a great world music concert with a project launched in 2017. Their first tour took place with a lot of energy.
The second is Trym, a mix of techno and electro which will take care of the closing on Saturday evening. The DJ performs on international stages, he is essential in his environment. We wanted him to come in 2024 but that didn't happen, he was scheduled elsewhere.
For the Sunday evening closing, it will be Kavinsky of course. “Nightcall” is the most shazamed song in a day. The DJ will do few dates in France next year and favors international dates. Discussions began two or three years ago and then we met after the Olympics to talk about it. »
Do you have a favorite in this program?
“My favorite is Perceval! A guy who comes from Rennes (35) and who destroys everything. I like anything festive and quirky. It will be under the big top.
St Grail in discovery will be eagerly awaited by young people. Artists like him are cut out for live performance. On their own, they are very good at running the show.
Hervé is also a project that we have been following for years. He calculates nothing and gives everything. Everyone likes it, we are very happy to program it. It will be around 9 p.m. on Saturday. »
What not to miss from the 2025 edition of the festival
Madness Derailed will be back for a third evening. What do you have in store for festival-goers?
“We have to give even more craziness to this evening that we experienced in 2024. The programming is underway. We are preparing it with our friends from Poupet, we already have a few names and it will be quite nice. The recipe remains the same with surprises. »
Which artist do you dream of seeing come to Bobital?
“We have quite a few! Manu Chao, in relation to the values he conveys. It is one of the beautiful projects that we would like to see here.
