“The One Who Really Trusted Me Was Vincent Kompany”: Former Anderlecht Player Reflects Ahead of Europa League Clash Against the Mauves

Trained at Anderlecht, Simion Michez will face his former team this Thursday in the Europa League. Happy since his signing in the Czech Republic with Slavia Prague, the former Neerpede player shared his thoughts with Sudinfo.

The Charleroi native reveals that he could have signed elsewhere: “There were also Basel and Union Saint-Gilloise, who were impressed by my strong start to the season in the Pro League with Beerschot. My two goals and an assist in six matches had caught their attention. I could have followed Sadiki and joined Union, which was serious. It was tempting. But Slavia was truly the best choice.”

So how does he assess the level of Slavia compared to Belgium? “We would automatically be in the Top 3 in Belgium,” he points out. “Our style of play partly aligns with Czech football, featuring a lot of intensity and long balls, but we also add individual touches. We can especially rely on players who can score goals easily and turn a match around.”

Michez previews the clash against his formative club: “It will be very exciting. For the whole team, but especially for me, given all the memories I have collected at Neerpede. Exciting, yes, but far from easy for us as we absolutely need to take points in the Europa League, unlike Anderlecht who will come without pressure given their impressive record of 11 out of 15 and fifth place in the league.”

The young player was then asked what he remembers most about his years at Neerpede. “The numerous victories, the beautiful game, and the atmosphere with all my friends surrounded by excellent youth coaches like fitness coach Hubert Lemaire,” he emphasizes. “But the one who really trusted me and allowed me to train with the first team when I was just 17 or 18 years old is Vincent Kompany!”
