India’s D. Gukesh beat China’s Ding Liren in the 14th round to claim the 2024 World Chess Championship at the Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore on Thursday.
This was Gukesh’s third win of the championship, which sealed the title for him. With this, the Indian Grand Master became the youngest World Chess champion ever.

The 18-year-old began the championship on the back foot after being defeated in the opening round. But Gukesh bounced back to level the score in the third round.
Gukesh took the lead in the 11th round, only to lose the next game as Ding struck back. In the penultimate round, Gukesh had the upper hand before the defending champion brought his best form and forced a draw.
The 14th and final game looked like it was heading for a similar result before Ding blundered, gifting Gukesh the win.
