Congratulations are in order for Selena Gomez and Benny Blancowho announced they are engaged after 1 year of dating.
“Forever begins now …” Selena, 32, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, December 11. Alongside the caption, the Wizards of Waverly Place alum shared a snapshot of her stunning diamond ring and a sweet photo of her and Benny, 36, cuddling.
Selena and Benny confirmed that they were dating in December 2023 after they collaborated on her song “Single Soon,” which was released in August of that year. “[Benny has] been the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “He’s still better than anyone I’ve been with. Facts.”
After they confirmed that they were more than just friends, Selena and Benny started sharing glimpses into their relationship with fans by posting PDA photos.
News of their engagement comes after Selena shut down a social media user who claimed that the younger version of herself wouldn’t marry Benny. While sharing a throwback clip of Selena via TikTok, the social media user wrote, “I know and so do you that at the time she would never have gotten engaged to Benny, she was in her IT GIRL era.”
However, Selena clapped back in July by responding, “Kinda makes me laugh because I was so depressed back then lol.”
Prior to their engagement, an insider exclusively told Life & Style in March that the “Come & Get It” singer hoped they would get married. “Selena can’t wait for Benny to propose,” the source shared. “She’s been telling friends she’s finally found the right guy and she’s ready to walk down the aisle. There are some who fear she’s rushing into things a little bit, though. They don’t want Selena to get her heart broken.”
After noting that Selena and Benny had “already discussed their dream wedding,” the insider said that the Wizards of Waverly Place alum “wants lots of color and tons of flowers” and they both want “the menu” to “be off the charts.”
Selena gushed about Benny in a sweet Instagram tribute on July 24, which featured several photos of them cuddling and spending quality time together. “Thank you for sharing your life with me today and everyday,” she captioned the snapshots.
Meanwhile, Benny previously opened up about falling in love with Selena while speaking to the Wall Street Journal in April.
“I was the last one to know,” he admitted. “It’s crazy how your partner could just be sitting there the whole time, right in front of your eyes, and you don’t even notice, and then you have that Clueless moment where you’re like, ‘Wait, I’m in love.’”
Selena clearly feels confident in her relationship with Benny, and another source exclusively told Life & Style that she has been in “a much better place” since they started dating. “Even though she’s gained weight and is curvier than she used to be, Selena feels sexy, confident and comfortable — and she refuses to hide her body,” the source said in February.
“Benny makes her feel extremely confident,” the insider shared. “He’s always telling her how beautiful she is and how much he loves her.”
While the source said that she is “happy with her career and her relationships,” they added that Selena “knows that these are the things that matter most.”
