Want another TV tip for tonight? We recommend a sublime love story with Cécile de France
Released in cinemas in 2022, Reste un peu is a dive into the life of Gad Elmaleh. After three years of living the American dream, the artist decided to return to France. He misses his family and friends. At least, that's the official response to justify his return… In reality, it's a very special person that he comes to find in Paris… the Virgin Mary.
To bring this unexpected comedy to life, Gad Elmaleh invited a large number of his close friends to the screen: Régime Elmaleh, his mother, David Elmaleh, his father, and Judith Elmaleh, his sister. Only his little brother, Arié Elmaleh, is missing.
Gad Elmaleh in all modesty
And the least we can say is that Gad Elmaleh reveals himself like never before in this astonishing intimate film. Here, we are a long way from the light comedies to which he has accustomed us, such as Coco (rated 1.3 out of 5) and Chouchou (1.9 out of 5).
Moreover, this is far from the first time that the actor has changed register. Example in 2009, where he shocked spectators in La Rafle, or in 2013, where he made a very strong impression in L'Écume des jours.
With Rest a little, Gad Elmaleh signs his second production on screen, fourteen years later Cocoand it is a great success. The national press notably gave it an honorable rating of 3.7 out of 5, while spectators rated it 3.2 out of 5.
And among the best comments published on AlloCiné, we can read: “Gad Elmaleh marks an intimate and particularly jubilant film”, “The most stunning, the most witty and the funniest film of the season”, “A very beautiful film, full of finesse and humor”“Absolutely overwhelming” or even “Very good auteur film which knows how to subtly approach the subject of religion, which is so often overused.”
A successful bet for Gad Elmalehespecially when we know that the film was made in a hurry. Indeed, Stay a little was written in a month and a half, prepared in a month and shot in a month… Hats off to the artist!
