The first dayChampions League of matchweek 6 had some pretty important matches, including crucial matches for some of Europe’s biggest teams who found themselves on thin ice. And for the most part, there weren’t many surprises in the results.
Well, not many surprises, except Inter Milan, who were the only team not to have conceded a single goal. But Bayer Leverkusen’s Nordi Mukiele scored in the 90th minute to hand Inter their first defeat so far in the Champions League.
Liverpool are now the only perfect team in the Champions League, with 6 wins and no defeats, after knocking out Girona last night.
The hammer blows came from Bayern Munich, who scored five goals against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Arena AufSchalke, their temporary home due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine (1-5), and Paris Saint-Germain, who desperately needed a win and they got it, 0-3 against Salzburg in Austria.
Real Madrid are also breathing after a hard-fought victory against Atalanta, a repeat of the European Super Cup in August. Mbappe scored his 50th goal in the Champions League in a 2-3 win for the away side, but Atalanta had several chances to equalize in the final 25 minutes.
And all hope was gone for Leipzig, who have been confirmed for elimination after a 2-3 defeat to Aston Villa. The German team, which reached the semi-finals in 2020, has lost all six matches so far.
