Those responsible at Borussia Dortmund have full confidence in Nuri Şahin. Striker Serhou Guirassy is also impressed by the coach.
Dortmund – Borussia Dortmund is still waiting for its first away win in the Bundesliga, the Black and Yellows are still within striking distance instead of within the top four. Nevertheless, there are no doubts about Nuri Şahin.
BVB bosses convinced by Şahin – Guirassy also praises the coach
There is certainly criticism of the 36-year-old head coach among fans because, despite a series of one defeat in the last seven games, Dortmund is lacking the desired consistency in some areas. Especially on offense, the shoe is regularly tight – as was the case in the recent draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach (1:1).
However, there is great satisfaction within the club with Şahin, who was hired as Edin Terzić’s assistant coach in January and became his successor. In addition to sports director Sebastian Kehl’s repeated declaration of loyalty, Serhou Guirassy also took part in the interview Sports picture a plea for the coach.
“Nuri Şahin and Sebastian Hoeneß (coach of VfB Stuttgart, editor) are very similar. They think a lot about football, they live for this job. This gives them a lot of ideas that make a team better,” said Guirassy, emphasizing: “You can feel that he was a very, very good footballer himself.”
Şahin convinced Guirassy before moving to BVB
The comparison with Sebastian Hoeneß is great. After taking office in April 2023, the 42-year-old transformed VfB Stuttgart from almost relegated to runner-up; under his leadership, Guirassy scored 28 Bundesliga goals last season.
Şahin already knew how to convince Guirassy before signing him in the past transfer summer. “He called me, as did Sebastian Kehl (sports director; editor). It is often the case at clubs that the manager wants a player, but the coach doesn’t. Or the other way around. “That wasn’t the case here at all,” reported the striker and revealed what the coach said to him: “That he only wanted one striker. And no one else.”
The transfer paid off for BVB, Guirassy scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists in his first 16 competitive appearances. The 28-year-old should enable Dortmund to win further titles – which should ideally be achieved under Şahin. In all likelihood, the Black and Yellows will come away empty-handed this season.
