Securing a top position in the Youth League was a lot of hard work for VfB, but Tsigkas found the perfect answer to the Swiss’ equalizer in the meantime.

Stuttgart coach Nico Willig made two changes compared to the 1-1 draw at Red Star Belgrade: Freßle started on the right wing for top scorer Bujupi and Azevedo and Mule on the left. At Young Boys Bern, Tschanz and Dalipi moved into the starting line-up in the center after the 2:4 against Atalanta Bergamo, replacing the suspended Bomo and Jost.
The Stuttgart team put coach Andre Niederhäuser’s team under pressure early on and dominated most of the first half. The left post saved twice for the Swiss: both Mule (18th) and Korkuz (28th) failed on the aluminum. Tsigkas also had a good opportunity with a header, which he put just wide of the box (4th), Korkuz also scored an offside goal after a fantastic combination (21st).
Bern limited themselves to counterattacking and had the only significant chance with a header that Lüthi turned into an arc lamp – VfB keeper Hellstern reacted well and carefully guided the ball over the crossbar (7th). Otherwise, YB was almost constantly busy defending against pressing Stuttgart.
Tsigkas answers Tsimba immediately
It was the strong Mule who gave Stuttgart the lead with a no-look pass: the pass found striker Tsigkas on the left five-meter corner, who placed the ball and sent it straight into the right corner. Tsimba evaded Herwerth and equalized (73′), but Tsigkas provided the perfect answer with his header from Spalt’s cross (74′). Luers got yellow-red for a tactical foul (90+2).

The final phase was hectic, but the Swiss didn’t have much to counter it. VfB will next have to play in the round of 16 in February against a team ranked 17-22 (unscheduled) – Young Boys Bern, on the other hand, have been eliminated.
