Zulte Waregem and RSCA Futures as big ‘winners’ and only one loser: what are the sporting consequences in the Challenger Pro League now that Deinze has been declared bankrupt?

The end of KMSK Deinze is a fact: the court has officially declared the club bankrupt. The second division team also disappears from the competition and that has a major impact on the Challenger Pro League. All clubs that took points against the East Flemish club this season will now lose those points. There is also now only one decliner at the end of the season.

Zulte Waregem unintentionally benefits from the bankruptcy of its fellow countryman. Essevee is currently in the lead in 1B together with La Louvière, but due to the loss of Deinze suddenly becomes the sole leader. Zulte Waregem drew 2-2 against Deinze in August, while co-leader La Louvière won against the East Flemish team in September.

Due to the loss of Deinze – and the associated points earned – Essevee therefore only loses one point, while La Louvière loses three. As a result, Zulte Waregem suddenly has two points more than La Louvière in the standings. The gap between RWDM and Patro Eisden, who are joint third, also grows from five points to seven.

Only one relegant

The loss of Deinze would be less positive for Francs Borains, who tumbled to a shared last place. Seraing also suddenly hangs at the bottom again. RSCA Futures then rises three places to a safe eleventh place.

However, there is also better news for those teams at the bottom, because with the disappearance of Deinze from the competition, only one team will have to be relegated at the end of the season. That was also the case last season. Due to the bankruptcy of the then KV Oostende, Seraing, which had finished penultimate, was still fished out.
