SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The moisture content of the air will rapidly rise today as winds blow out of the south. Models show the possibility of some sea fog possible but arguing against that will be the stronger winds and clouds, keeping us warmer in the morning hours. But most importantly, today is a good rain chance day. We have a First Alert Weather Day today and tomorrow. Today for line of rain and thunderstorms, tomorrow for gusty winds.
A cold front is on our door step this morning and clouds have thickened. Rain chances will spike up to 70% during the mid-morning and early afternoon and the front advances. While there is a small chance for severe weather, isolated thunderstorm are more likely. The probability of a thunderstorms and lightning strikes is about 40% between 10am and 4pm. Showers will be possible at any time between the morning and midafternoon, starting in northern areas and working south through the day. Total rain fall amounts should be held to .25 inches or less due to the fast movement of the showers, but higher amounts are possible under thunderstorms.
As the showers and thunderstorms sink south, winds will turn northwest and become gusty. Winds speeds will increase to 15 to 20 mph and gust to 25. The winds will strengthen slightly during the overnight and early tomorrow. Small Craft Advisories will be in effect this afternoon and into tomorrow.
The winds will continue to shift, turning to the north. This will drive in much cooler air. With the winds gusting, Thursday morning will feel a bit raw. However, a dawn breaks on Thursday and skies will be mostly sunny. Weather will be similar to the days we saw at the beginning of last week, with highs only in the mid 60s.
We should begin to warm Friday back into seasonable 70s.
