Audi recalls: Off for defeat devices and thermal windows

The first recall affects 262,264 cars worldwide from the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and the SUV models Q5 and Q7 from the years 2010 to 2017. According to a ruling by the European Court of Justice, the function of the exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) on these models corresponds (ECJ) of July 2022 does not comply with EU regulations and therefore needs to be improved. Reducing exhaust gases via a so-called thermal window is not permitted and must be corrected. According to information from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), 50,713 vehicles in Germany are affected by this recall.

An ordered software update for the engine controls of the vehicles affected by the recall is intended to provide relief by optimizing the EGR function in accordance with applicable regulations. All owners of affected vehicles will be informed via the KBA and asked to take their vehicles to the workshops.

At KBA, the recall runs under the reference number 14571R; Audi has assigned the code 23DW for the campaign.

Remove shutdown devices

In a second recall, the Ingolstadt-based company has to bring 342,179 cars from the A4, A6 and A8 series from 2005 to 2010 back to the workshops worldwide. According to the KBA, this is about the removal of impermissible defeat devices or the impermissible reduction in the effectiveness of the emissions control system. In Germany, 128,959 vehicles are affected by this recall.

As part of the scheduled visit to the workshop, the vehicles receive a software update for the engine control system. If necessary, work on other components may also be necessary.
