The head of state brought together the heads of political parties at the Élysée, without the RN and LFI, in the hope of achieving a government and avoiding new censorship.
“Wise news, wise decision”. Upon leaving the Élysée, the head of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier welcomed Emmanuel Macron's desire to “no longer put himself in the hands of the National Rally”. This Tuesday, December 10, the head of state summoned the leaders of political parties, with the exception of the RN and LFI, in the hope of making progress on the formation of a government that would escape censorship.
According to several participants in BFMTV, Emmanuel Macron assured that “no one wants to give control back to the RN” in this future government and its formation.
If Marine Tondelier deplores “no compromise, no concession” from the presidential camp to form a government team, she welcomes the commitment of the President of the Republic against the party of Marine Le Pen.
“The President of the Republic insisted several times on the fact that they all committed to no longer putting themselves in the hands of the National Rally, to no longer relying on the National Rally to govern. Wise news, wise decision . They also know where it led them,” she declared to journalists at the end of the meeting at the Élysée.
This two-hour interview with Emmanuel Macron does not, however, seem to have made much progress in the political crisis situation in which the country finds itself, while the head of state expressed his wish to appoint a new Prime Minister “in 48 hours.”
A left-wing Prime Minister?
Nearly a week after the vote on the motion of censure in the National Assembly, bringing down the newly appointed Michel Barnier and his ministers, compromises seem complicated between the different political camps.
Should government censorship worry those who lend money to France?
On the left, the PS executives expressed three conditions: no participation in a government led by the right or so-called “technical”; a “left” Prime Minister; “a real change of political course” on subjects like “pensions, purchasing power, tax justice…”.
Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the PS, believes that “things have rather progressed” during the day's discussions, citing the renunciation on both sides of the table of the use of 49-3 and the use of the motion of censorship.
But the appointment of a left-wing Prime Minister is “not credible” by the leader of the Republican Right Laurent Wauquiez, who assured that this meeting at the Élysée could only be an opportunity to talk about “the method for obtain non-censorship” and “in no case (of) participation in a government or on a program”.
For its part, the RN denounces its absence at Emmanuel Macron's meeting at the Élysée, Jordan Bardella calling it “methods of disrespect and mind-blowing inelegance for our 11 million voters” and expressing indignation of “mind-blowing inelegance.”
