The RSCA Futures better be ready, because it is still unclear with which team David Hubert will travel to Prague on Wednesday. That will almost certainly be without Mario Stroeykens. It is the third match in a row that a basic player has dropped out.
The images of Stroeykens twisting his ankle are not pleasant to watch. He won’t be playing again for a while anyway. The ankle completely folded. So that is the third match in a row that someone drops out after Samuel Edozie and Tristan Degreef.
Add to that Killian Sardella, Jan Vertonghen, Majeed Ashimeru and Thorgan Hazard and you have seven potential starters who are not there. That is a lot for Anderlecht. What is striking: Edozie, Degreef, Sardella and Stroeykens all twisted their ankle.
Wouldn’t the state of the field have something to do with that? We asked trainer David Hubert. He had to think first so he didn’t say anything wrong. “It doesn’t help, no,” he said diplomatically.
“Are there any solutions? If you have one, you can always give them. It is very difficult to do something about it at this time of year.”
It is already a major setback for Anderlecht that their connecting piece between defensive midfield and attack is now gone. Although Yari Verschaeren’s appearance does suggest that he is eager to get his chance there.
