The podium

McLaren driver Lando Norris celebrated a lights-to-flag victory ahead of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the Ferraris. It was only thanks to this victory that McLaren secured the constructors’ title just ahead of the Scuderia. It is McLaren’s first success in Formula 1 in 26 years.

The scene of the race

In the very first corner, world champion Max Verstappen attacked, he came into contact with Oscar Piastri’s McLaren. Both spun, but the Dutchman was able to continue better, the Australian had to fall behind. A short time later, Mad Max received a 10-second penalty for this action.

Because Piastri never had a chance of scoring many points and Leclerc raced forward through the field, it became exciting again for the constructors’ title.

This is how Sauber did

Valtteri Bottas had once again proven his class in qualifying, set the fastest time and secured 9th place on the grid. Before the start of the race, the Finn thanked his racing team and engine manufacturer Ferrari via radio. In the GP he lost four positions at the start, later he braked, hit Kevin Magnussen and had to give up the race. Guanyu Zhou was given a five-second penalty for a false start and the Chinese finished 14th.

This was the last race for the two drivers for the time being; they had to leave Sauber and make way for the German Nico Hülkenberg and rookie Gabriel Bortoleto (Brazil).

Grandstand chirping

It wasn’t just a dernière for Bottas and Zhou, record world champion Lewis Hamilton also drove his last GP for Mercedes and will be under contract with Ferrari from next year. After starting from 16th place, the Briton managed to finish in 4th place, a conciliatory conclusion for the Silver Arrows.

This is how it goes

Not at all, that was the end of the 2024 World Championship. The 2025 season begins with the Australian GP on March 16th.
