During the weekend of December 7 and 8, 700 religious will wear the liturgical creations imagined by Jean-Charles Castelbajac.
Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, stylist adored by celebrities, is also one of the Church's favorites! For the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, he was chosen by the diocese of Paris to design the vestments and liturgical ornaments. He designed white outfits decorated with an imposing gold cross, inspired by that of the artist Marc Couturier, which remained intact after the fire in the cathedral on April 15, 2019. This cross is enhanced by shards of yellow velvet , red, blue and green, evoking symbolic hues: red for the blood of Christ, blue for Mary, green for hope and yellow for gold. For this major project, the designer called on the expertise of prestigious French luxury craft houses, residents of 19M. Among them, Lesage, responsible for the ornaments, the Montex workshop for the embroidery of the crosses and the archbishop's cope, the Maison Goossens for the clasps, the Maison Michel millinery for the colors and the Paloma workshop for the assembly of the pieces. The result: vibrant and unique “medieval pop” outfits.

Jean-Charles Castelbajac, the stylist of the Church
A fashion icon since the end of the 1960s, Jean-Charles Castelbajac never ceases to amaze with his creative spirit. Known for his vibrant collections, with bold colors and graphic prints, he has dressed iconic figures such as Madonna, Jay-Z and John Lennon. But his vision also extends to the religious world. This is not his first attempt with the Church: on August 24, 1997, he dressed Pope John Paul II as well as nearly 5,500 officiants during World Youth Day, an event bringing together more than 1,200,000 Catholics from all over the world. A historic moment marking the meeting between haute couture and the Church. A feat that he has once again achieved, consolidating his role as a versatile creator.
