The passage of the Darragh storm this Saturday requires “particular vigilance” in all the Breton departments, Manche, Calvados, Seine-Maritime, Somme and Pas-de-Calais, as well as Aude and the Pyrénées-Orientales, Météo France alert. This orange wind vigilance is planned for Saturday from 6 a.m. to early evening.
Gusts up to 130 km/h
After the rainy spell during the night from Friday to Saturday, “the wind strengthens significantly in the trailing sky from the end of the night in the departments placed on orange wind alert. Locally stormy showers near the coasts generate sometimes violent gusts of wind, particularly on coastlines exposed to west to northwest winds, specifies Météo France. The wind gusts expected during the event reach 80 to 100 km/h in the interior of these departments, and around 100 to 120 km/h on the coasts exposed to the wind, or occasionally 130 km/h or more on the most exposed capes”.
At the end of the day, the wind should weaken slightly. However, it will remain strong during the night from Saturday to Sunday and during the day on Sunday, particularly near the coasts.
No trains in several regions
Due to these violent winds, the SNCF announced that the circulation of all trains on the Normandy regional rail network (Nomad) would be suspended on Saturday and Sunday “in order to guarantee the safety of travelers and staff”.
“A total interruption of traffic is planned on certain lines in the Brittany, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Pays de la Loire regions” on Saturday and Sunday, the SNCF added early Friday evening on its website. “Removals and modifications of services are also envisaged,” she adds.
In Brittany, the lines linking Rennes to Brest, Quimper and Saint-Malo are particularly affected, as well as other local TER connections until Sunday midday.
Other axes are also affected by this “preventive stop” of train traffic in the neighboring region of Pays de la Loire (TER linking Nantes or La Roche-sur-Yon for example) and in New Aquitaine (Bordeaux-Dax , Dax-Hendaye in particular)
