At the heart of the 26th day of Vendée Globe racing, discover the 3D mapping for Friday December 7. In the lead and able to tame the depression by getting ahead of it, Charlie Dalin reaps the rewards of his risk-taking near the Antarctic exclusion zone.
The 26th day of racing in the Vendée Globe, this Friday, December 6, allowed Charlie Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance) to increase his lead over his pursuers. The Normandy skipper overcame a depression by getting ahead of it. But for this it was necessary not to slow down, in order to take full advantage of this choice of trajectory, more direct but also more risky closer to the Antarctic exclusion zone.
Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) made the same tactical choice. It also proved profitable (but more difficult), as the skipper was firmly in second position, more than 250 miles behind Dalin. But with at least as much lead over the third, the depression being avoided by the rest of the fleet which chose safety by going north. Even if it means extending the road. This is the case of Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa), who conceded more than 500 miles in less than a week.
