The confidence acquired by Stade Malherbe Caen after qualifying for the Coupe de against Bolbec (6-0) will not have been enough. Traveling to on Friday December 6, 2024, the Malherbistes have still not managed to convert their opportunities, however numerous and concrete. Worse, they paid cash for a clear error and lost (1-0).

A new fatal error

Apart from an exit from Yannis Clémentia outside his area in front of a Laval attacker (4′), it is SM Caen who is playing the game. Didi Gaucho tried his luck in the middle without finding the target (7′) before Alexandre Mendy's header from a cross from Godson Kyeremeh was well captured by Mamadou Samassa (10′). But once again, Caen is punished for a defensive error. Emmanuel Ntim goes out to Tchokounté but cannot prevent him from finding Sanna. Romain Thomas is then taken by the call of a Laval resident and leaves his opponent seep into the surface and beat Clémentia (1-0, 12′).

A few minutes later, Laval thought they would double the lead, but Selloubi's goal was disallowed for offside (18'). Despite Laval's opening score, the Caen supporters made themselves heard and It’s Malherbe who has possession of the ballbut without being able to cross the two defensive lines formed by the Mayennais. It was at the half-hour mark that Caen had the opportunity to equalize on a magnificent three-way game. Kyeremeh shifts Brahimi whose cross finds Mendy launched at the penalty spot. Once again, the Caen striker do the right thingbut Mamadou Samassa intervenes (29′). In the moments that followed, Alexandre Mendy bumps into Samassa again after a new exchange with Kyeremeh in the area (34′). Before the break, former Caen player Malik Tchokounté had the opportunity to double the lead, but Clémentia intervened.

Still no success

Returning from the locker room, it was Laval who appeared dangerous. Camara's good cross finds a Laval player alone at six meters, but his header is off target (47'). But Caen does not relax and Bilal Brahimi crosses from the right at the far post towards Lorenzo Rajot. The head of the ancient Ruthenian hits the post and ends his race in the arms of Samassa (51′).

The Laval goalkeeper wins again, this time ahead of Michaël Le Bihan (62′). Caen does not succeed, like Alexandre Mendy who thinks he has finally equalized, but sees his goal disallowed for offside (69′). Caen multiplies the balls in the area, some more usable than othersbut without success.

Thanks to negative results from lower ranked teams, SM Caen stays above the waterline. But once again, the opportunity to take points is missed.
