Simon Mignolet (36) will not participate in the final weeks of the popular program The Smartest Person in the World. Although the Club Brugge goalkeeper managed to qualify for the final phase during a successful passage, he decided to cancel due to the busy calendar in December.

With a tough schedule ahead, including a crucial Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon and league toppers against Genk and Union, Mignolet has chosen to keep his full focus on football.

The last weeks of December and the start of 2025 also promise to be intense, including a quarter-final in the Belgian Cup against OHL and a home match against Anderlecht.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to participate in the final of The Smartest Person in the World”, Mignolet shared on social media. “There are important matches coming up in the Champions League and competition, and I want to pay my full attention to that.”

Mignolet emphasizes that he would have liked to have been there, but that his priority is his career as a footballer. “My job is still to be a footballer,” he concluded in his message.

The news may come as a disappointment to fans of the popular quiz show, because Mignolet made a very good and funny impression during his passage.
