France will experience a new period of cold from Sunday December 8, marked by snow in the mountains, wind, morning frosts and a general drop in temperatures.
After a week of mild weather, the cold sets in again. From Sunday December 8, temperatures will drop drastically in the northern three-quarters of the country, due to “the arrival of a polar air mass”, reports Météo-France.
“From Sunday, the weather will be under the influence of a moderately cold descent of maritime polar air which will persist for a large part of next week,” indicates the meteorological organization.

From 2 to 10°C from northeast to southwest
Temperatures will fall below seasonal norms, oscillating between 2 and 10°C from the northeast to the southwest. Morning frosts, “without notable intensity”, could appear in the plains, while “showers could circulate in a more or less organized manner over France”, specifies Météo-France.
Snow could also make a return. It will be abundant in the mountains, covering “all the massifs”, and could occasionally reach the plains.
“This first winter offensive will be generalized, and more lasting, specifies La Chaîne Météo. Temperatures will drop from 4 to 6°C below seasonal averages. The cold will be widespread as far as the south.”
“In the mountains, the conditions will be fully wintery with intense cold and violent wind. It is above all the 'feeling' which will be particularly cold during this episode”, explains La Chaine Météo, which indicates that the whole of next week will be cold and more particularly Wednesday December 11.
“For the future, a change in weather could set in with the return of the humid and gentle ocean flow from the west. This ocean flow could become necessary in view of the Christmas holidays,” indicates La Chaine Météo.
