The draw for the new Club World Cup was made this Thursday, December 5 in Miami. The teams involved now know their opponents.
The Club World Cup will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2024, in the United States. The competition works according to the same principle as for the national selections, but with clubs. Instead of attending France-Argentina or Brazil-Germany, there will be PSG-Bayern Munich.
FIFA, a little jealous of the revenue generated by UEFA and the very lucrative Champions League, thought of and organized this new meeting by pushing the walls in an already busy international calendar.
This World Cup could be eagerly awaited by football fans, but only if it replaces another competition. However, it is added to it, and it is above all a fear for the international players union and its president David Terrier.
“The players obviously want to play every match but are explaining that they are no longer able to play 70 matches a year while performing well,” he explains. “We give football a bad image because the supporters don't see the best show“, continues David Terrier.
The complete draw
All this is without counting the injury risks and economic impact : more money, more TV rights for an international competition, it means less income for the national leagues. And therefore the risk of seeing our good French Ligue 1 championship, even more weakened.
