The rebels continue to call for the departure of the president, hoping that this prophecy will become self-fulfilling. “How many more does Michel Barnier, the president, intend to use before drawing the necessary conclusions and assuming his personal responsibilities? “, declared the rebellious tribune during the week.
The main person concerned, however, dismissed the idea from Saudi Arabia: “political fiction”, which makes “no sense” according to him.
The Insoumis “respect the Lambertist theory”, a current of Trotskyism to which Jean-Luc Mélenchon belonged, believes he knows a socialist framework: “If an event does not happen, we must put pressure so that it ends up happening”
No matter, Jean-Luc Mélenchon will be on the TF1 television news Thursday evening to demand the resignation of Emmanuel Macron in front of millions of spectators.
“He will have a reassuring word, we want to show that we have a program and that it is Macron who is creating chaos and not us,” explains a close friend of the three-time presidential candidate.
An idea that emerges
If the procedure for dismissing the head of state, doomed to failure, failed in October in the Assembly before even reaching a vote in the hemicycle, it brought this question to the surface in the debates.
And since then, the resignation of the president has been mentioned by the LR mayor of Cannes David Lisnard, that of Meaux Jean-François Copé or even the figure of the Liot group in the Assembly, Charles de Courson. But by no LFI ally on the left.
The Insoumis “respect the Lambertist theory”, a current of Trotskyism to which Jean-Luc Mélenchon belonged in his youth, a socialist executive believes. “If an event doesn't happen, you have to put pressure on it so that it eventually happens.”
The consecration of “them against us”
To justify this change from above, LFI relies in particular on an Elabe poll published last week: 63% of French people wanted the president to resign in the event of censorship by the Barnier government.
And the Insoumis do not hide it: they are preparing to leave alone in the event of an early presidential election. Behind a candidate who would, naturally, be Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
“We don't want to waste seven of the thirty days we have to prepare for a presidential election debating Olivier Faure's candidacy”, within the unitary framework of the NFP, says a rebellious executive ironically.
For them, it would be the consecration of “them against us”, the long-awaited confrontation with the far right.
And too bad if Jean-Luc Mélenchon's popularity rating is low and if the polls show him losing in the second round of a presidential election against Marine Le Pen.
Signatory mayors already identified
“Mélenchon is the permanent campaign,” smiles MP Paul Vannier, executive of the radical left movement. An idea theorized for a long time by the patriarch of the radical left, who wants elections to be prepared well in advance of the official periods.
Before the censorship of Michel Barnier, the Rebels had already sent a letter to Bruno Retailleau, Minister of the Interior, to question him on the modalities of a possible early election.
“There are only two parties that are ready: the RN and LFI,” believes an LR deputy
And with this in mind, they neglect no aspect. Traditionally, LFI, which has very few local elected officials, always takes a little time to gather the 500 signatures necessary to run for president.
“It’s a point of vigilance for us,” recognizes party coordinator Manuel Bompard, admitting: “We started the work, by identifying the mayors who signed the last time.”
Pulling the rug out from under the other parties
For them, an early election would have the advantage of pulling the rug out from under the feet of other left-wing parties which for the moment lack incarnation or political orientation with a view to a presidential election.
“There are only two parties that are ready: the RN and LFI,” said an LR MP.
An early election would also allow Jean-Luc Mélenchon, 73, not to wait until the 2027 deadline.
