Alain who calls us Sprimont is a farmer. Although he specifies that he is not participating in the movement, he supports it with all his heart: “I understand and support the blocking of borders. People need to understand that they are going to eat things that have been produced with substances that have never been authorized in Europe”.
For the farmer, this agreement with Mercosur represents a risk for the employment of farmers and the health of consumers. He launches a real warning cry: “The consumer must understand that he is going to eat crap.”
“NWe know what we produce on farms every day, whether it’s meat, milk or grain…if this deal goes through, people will have something on their plates that they will regret having. ingested later. Once the agreement is signed, it will be too late…”, warns Alain.
-Note that the agreement with Mercosur does not aim to replace Belgian products on the shelves, but ultimately, to offer more choice to customers. “They produce by injecting hormones into the meat. Their production has a much better yield…We are going to collapse”he explains. Alain fears the end of agriculture on the European continent: “We will not be able to face this competition. When we’re gone, it’ll be too late to go back”, he concludes.
