Vegetables play the main role in the quarterfinals of the current “The Taste” season on Sat.1. As a guest judge, Zurich gourmet chef and restaurateur Elif Oskan gives the eleven remaining candidates and their coaches the ingredients of potatoes, turnips, beetroot and Jerusalem artichokes for team cooking.

The decision about the overall victory in the 13th season of “The Taste” will be made before Christmas. So the Sat.1 cooking competition is heading towards the home stretch: The quarter-finals are on the program today, Wednesday, December 4th, from 8:15 p.m.

As in the previous week, eleven candidates face the culinary challenges this time, as coaches Alexander Kumptner and Alexander Herrmann each drew their joker and thus saved Doreen and Jebrael from elimination. However, this has resulted in changes to the personnel composition of the individual teams. Coach Frank Rosin goes into the quarterfinals with Craig as the only protégé, while Tim Raue and Alexander Herrmann each look after teams of three. Alexander Kumptner is now even coaching a quartet of candidates.

Once again, “The Taste” is about preparing the tastiest tasting spoons possible according to the specifications of a prominent guest judge. This time it is the trained chef and pastry chef Elif Oskan, who runs three successful restaurants in Zurich with her partner Markus Stöckle. She chose the theme of vegetable cuisine for “The Taste” – which also includes memories of her childhood for the gourmet chef who was born in southeastern Anatolia and grew up in Switzerland. “I know you don’t really associate it with Turkish cuisine, but for us it was always vegetarian,” explains Oskan. “For me the vegetables are just so great, there are so many. It can also be almost like flesh, so very masculine, but also very elegant, very involving, inviting. I’m excited about what’s happening today.”

Today’s “The Taste” spoons don’t have to be vegetarian or vegan, but the focus should be on vegetables. In any case, the candidates should move on international terrain in order to meet the taste of the guest from Switzerland. Elif Oskan suggests that not only Turkish cuisine, but also Mexican and Japanese cuisine are among her favorites. There is also another element: “I love acid”.

The guest judge chooses four types of vegetables: potato, turnip, beetroot and Jerusalem artichoke. After each team has been given an ingredient, the game can begin. At the end of the episode, the group may be two fewer cooking talents. However, Frank Rosin could still have a say and save someone from elimination. The Dorsten top chef is the only coach still entering the race with a candidate joker.
