The former boss of environmentalists believes that the left-wing coalition that came out on top in the legislative elections must govern alongside ministers from the “central bloc”.

Environmentalist senator Yannick Jadot pleaded Wednesday, December 4 for a government led by the left but including “ministers from the central bloc”, in the name of a “transitional republican pact” in the face of institutional blockage.

While the current Barnier government should be overthrown on Wednesday by the adoption of a motion of censure, Yannick Jadot told Le Figaro that it was necessary to find “a non-censorship agreement, around a restricted base of measures essential for the French”, between the left-wing alliance of the New Popular Front and the Macronist central bloc.

According to the former presidential candidate, it would be up to the NFP to form the next government “since our coalition came first in the legislative elections”.

“Center of gravity” on the left

“The center of gravity of the next government must be much more to the left than what it is today. The Prime Minister must be a figure from the left and the ecologists. This political field does not lack very capable people” , he argued, without naming names.

“But from the moment such a pact exists, I do not exclude that there could be ministers from the central bloc,” he added, unlike the Insoumis in particular who reject any agreement with the Macronists .

What will happen if the motion of censure is passed?

According to Yannick Jadot, the left and the Macronists could agree “on transpartisan subjects such as fiscal and social justice, proportional representation, adaptation to climate change, housing, carbon-free industry, public services, medical deserts, end of life, farmers' income without sacrificing health and biodiversity.

The senator from returned the ball to the central bloc which “must choose between continuing and formalizing its alliance with the extreme right or returning to the field of the Republic, democracy and progress”.

In the event that Michel Barnier was actually overthrown on Wednesday, and unable to initiate a new dissolution of the Assembly before next summer, Emmanuel Macron will have to deal with the current balances, in a very fractured Palais-Bourbon, to clear the name of the future head of government.
