Lyon. After a hunger strike and the sale of a fire station in Le Bon Coin, firefighters demonstrate for the Festival of Lights

“Up for grabs Confluence fire station”: firefighters put their station up for sale for 100,000 euros on Le Bon Coin on Tuesday evening (the ad was already deleted this Wednesday midday). “The sale will finance around a hundred firefighter positions,” it was stipulated.

They will demonstrate on two bridges

On strike for more than two months, the firefighters of the SDMIS (Departmental and Metropolitan Fire and Rescue Service) are primarily demanding additional staff to “save our public emergency service”, but also for upgrades. They are asking for more resources from their main funders: Métropole de and Département. The communities, for their part, highlight their budgetary constraints and demand from the State a reform of the TSCA, the Special Tax on insurance agreements, to better finance the SDMIS.

They had announced a “luminous” action for the Festival of Lights. The firefighters will gather in front of their headquarters, rue Rabelais, in Lyon 3rd, at 4:30 p.m. then they will go to the Lafayette and Guillotière bridges. Some 400 firefighters are expected to demonstrate.

Firefighters have stepped up their actions in recent weeks. They met with elected officials and took their word to the Ministry of the Interior, but they still feel that they are not being heard. A 55-year-old officer from Lyon also went on a hunger strike for ten days.

At the same time, like every year, more than 120 firefighters will be mobilized at the heart of the Festival of Lights in six remote barracks. The prefect responsible for security clarified on Monday that requisitions would take place if necessary.
