The National Lottery is not attractive to those seeking to launder money.”

In an official communication, the Lottery wishes to clarify that it is “not attractive for circles seeking to launder money”, pointing out “the systems in place to guarantee the integrity of its activities and prevent any attempt at money laundering”. It states that each player account is necessarily linked to a national register number, ensuringne strict and secure identification, “which prevents any anonymous or fraudulent opening by players with malicious intentions.”

The Lottery also states that “different limits linked to losses and the number of participations exist absolutely.” She specifies: “Winnings and deposits are regulated. To begin with, there is only a maximum amount allowed on a player account. In case of winning, the player’s account balance is always limited to a maximum of 500 and the rest of the amount is automatically transferred to the player’s bank account. The maximum limit for deposits is €500 per week”, she assures. Before continuing: “A deposit which is in fact also possible via vouchers available at physical points of sale but these are capped at €100. Anti-money laundering legislation fully applies to points of sale. The National Lottery also reminds that These games have an average payout of 60%.”

“All these elements mean that the National Lottery environment is not attractive for those seeking to launder money,” she says. “And all the more so since in the rare cases where such behavior is attempted, the Forensic unit of the National Lottery detects it and reports these facts to the competent authorities. This is what it did in 2022 in the context of information recently published in the press.” Given the ongoing investigation, the National Lottery has said it does not wish to make any further comments.
