Capital Region (WRGB) — With snow still on the ground from Thanksgiving in parts of New York, more winter weather is expected Wednesday afternoon into Friday.
A clipper system will pass north of the region from late Wednesday through Thursday morning bringing snow to the area with highly variable accumulations and impacts across the area. An arctic front will swing through Thursday morning with snow squalls that could produce a brief, but particularly hazardous period of travel. Wind gusts of 40-50 mph possible Thursday with wind cold conditions persisting through Friday.
-Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, breezy and cold. Limited impacts from snow through the day, dry in the morning. Patchy light snow will break out in areas north of the Capital region during the afternoon and evening, especially in a strip from the southern Adirondacks to the Lake George-Saratoga region into Vermont. A gusty south wind up to 25 mph. Temps in the 30s, but feeling like the 20s
-Wednesday Night: Snow will become most widespread with slow and slick travel conditions in many areas. Greatest impacts in the strip to the north and in the Catskills and across western New England, limited snow in the Capital Region
-Thursday: Morning arctic frontal passage could time out for the commute period with quick hitting intense snow squalls with 40 mph gusts, brief white-outs and quick coating to 1” accumulations. Particularly hazardous travel during this time. The valleys then dry out with additional lake and mountain effect snow in the Catskills, Adirondacks and across western New England. Temps in the 30s, but dropping in the afternoon
--Friday: Windy, cold, 20% snow shower chance, 20s
