It’s been a banner year for women, the biggest in global songs chart history. Taylor Swift did very well, as did a certain Mr. Kendrick Lamar with his hit diss track ‘Not Like Us’.

Ahead of the always anticipated release of Spotify Wrapped, which looks back at users’ most listened-to songs, albums and podcasts of the year, Apple Music Replay has revealed its list of the biggest songs of 2024.
This shows Apple Music users their listening habits over the past 12 months.
This year’s edition shares the year-end charts for 2024, which reveal the biggest songs of the year by Apple Music streams, Shazam tags, read lyrics and more.
One of the main takeaways this year is that 2024 was the biggest year for women in global songs chart history, with 39 of the top global songs by female-identifying artists.
Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Billie Eilish are amongst some of the most played artists, while Benson Boone and Teddy Swims have been confirmed as leading the global Shazam chart. The most played track on Apple Music in 2024, however, went to Kendrick Lamar’s record-breaking diss track ‘Not Like Us’ – which Drake has been losing sleep over since it was released this summer.
The results reveal that the expanded edition of Swift’s eleventh studio album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology’ (read our review here) was the most streamed album this year on the platform. Additionally, Swift was also awarded the most streamed artist.
The artist, who is about to close off her record-breaking worldwide Eras Tour this weekend (8 December), shared her reaction in an Instagram Story shared yesterday: “Ahhhhhh thank you for listening to my music and TTPD so much!!!!”
“You, the fans, made The Tortured Poets Department the TOP STREAMED ALBUM of The Year on @applemusic!!! You guys snagged me that Top Streamed Artist spot too.”
