This Thursday, December 5, 2024, many agents of the public service will be on strike in Gironde following a national call from the inter-union.
In Bordeaux, the meeting place for the inter-union demonstration is given at 2 p.m. Republic Square. The procession should then set off for the Place de la Comédie. Disruptions are expected on the tram and bus network.
What impacts on schools?
In Gironde, two out of three teachers will be on strike in the first degree. “All staff involved in childcare will follow suit,” explains Samantha Fitte, departmental co-secretary SNUipp-FSU, the majority union in elementary schools.
Unable to accommodate the students, “a hundred primary schools will be completely closed” in the department, explains Samantha Fitte.
In Bordeaux, they are already 27 schools not to open their doors. In the others, the reception will be normal in the classes of non-striking teachers. Daycare services will be closed in the majority of cases. Only eight canteens will offer a welcome with hot meal. Find the case by case on the city website.
In the second degree, the teachers will declare themselves on strike the same morning. “But the movement looks set to be well followed,” underlines Samantha Fitte.
What demands?
“Nicolas Sarkozy’s contemptuous and lying remarks about teachers’ working hours” have put the fire to the powder, explains the union representative. While “not a day goes by without three or four colleagues calling us because of burnout or deterioration in their health”.
Education professionals are demonstrating in particular against the planned elimination (in the government's budget under review) of 3,000 positions. “We could take advantage of the reduction in the number of students to create other positions essential to their care. In Gironde, 100 students are waiting for a place in Ulis class and 700 in IME or ITEP,” laments Samantha Fitte.
A double strike
At the same time, an inter-union in the energy sector also called for a strike this Thursday, December 5. Salary negotiations have started in companies.
The strike officially starts this Wednesday at 9 p.m. for night shifts, a tradition in the energy sector. The impact should be felt by businesses, not the public.
Their demands match those of public servants more generally by mobilizing against the introduction of three waiting days, the reduction in compensation for days of sick leave and the freezing of the index point which “loses purchasing power every year”. And for a general improvement in working conditions.
Among other things, the agents also demand “ budgetary means in line with the missions of public services and policies”, job creation or even salary and professional equality between men and women.
THE other sectors of the civil service are affected by the strike: the Sud and CGT unions of the Bordeaux hospital center have notably called for a strike. Municipal services should also be impacted in many municipalities in Gironde, each will communicate according to their striking agents.
