From Staff Reports
The National Weather Service at Binghamton has issued a winter storm warning for Cortland County, expecting between 5 and 8 inches of snow, starting about 1 p.m. Wednesday and continuing through 4 a.m. Friday.
It issued a winter weather advisory for Tompkins and Cayuga counties, expecting 3 to 5 inches.
Complicating the snow will be winds gusting up to 35 miles per hour, causing near zero visibility for travelers.
“As some New Yorkers recover from the first major lake effect snowstorm of the season, we will experience more winter weather bringing snow, winds and cold to a larger area starting tomorrow,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a release. “New York State agencies are prepared to respond and will closely coordinate with our local partners across the State — I urge all New Yorkers to monitor their local forecasts and exercise caution.”
The storm will be harder elsewhere. Hochul said. Syracuse and Buffalo could see 6 to 10 inches, and some communities off the Great Lakes could see a foot, adding to the 5 feet they got last week.
The heaviest snow would be north of Interstate 90, forecasters said.
Snow showers will likely continue through Thursday and into Friday, the weather service reports.
Expect a low temperature around 24 degrees Wednesday night, which would feel more like 6 degrees with the wind chill. Forecasters expect a high Thursday of 28 degrees and a low Thursday night of 18 degrees.
