After 19 minutes, Leroy Sané’s working day was over again. The German international fell victim to Manuel Neuer’s red card during FC Bayern’s cup exit.

After his captain was sent off, FCB coach Vincent Kompany was forced to take a field player off the field. It caught Sané, who was recently only able to convince to a limited extent in terms of sport and was now deprived of his chance to once again make an exclamation point.

“I think the last time was in the U19s. That was a few years ago,” said Sané after the game Sky, when asked if he had ever had to be substituted so early in his career. “But that was just for tactical reasons. That’s completely understandable.”

“Manu also came directly to me when I was substituted and apologized,” continued the 28-year-old, who did not want to blame Neuer at all. It was “a very disgusting ball for goalkeepers”.

Afterwards, Sané emphasized again that he had no grudge against coach Kompany. “It could have happened to anyone, today it was me,” said the German international. “I’m still proud of the team for how they reacted afterwards. And that’s what counts.”

A few hours before kick-off it became known that Sané would avoid a ban for his elbow strike in the top game against BVB. The DFB control committee had announced that it would forego proceedings against the Bayern star, who caught Dortmund’s Pascal Groß in the face unnoticed by the referee.
