FC Bayern has to bury its cup hopes early this year too. The saddest man of the evening sits in the stands and is English.
Munich – And another one gone…
You can only feel sorry for this man. Harry Kane comes to FC Bayern to finally win titles. Harry Kane scored 64 goals and provided 21 assists in his first 64 games for FC Bayern. But Harry Kane just doesn’t seem to be able to win a trophy with the team.
Harry Kane watches FC Bayern’s cup exit – and can’t do anything
On this cold Tuesday evening in the Allianz Arena, the Bayern clipper could only watch idly as his team ruined the next possible title, the DFB Cup, with a defeat against Bayer Leverkusen. One can only imagine how painful that must be. Kane, who was seated in the arena just a few meters away from the journalists, was forced to watch due to a torn muscle.
Kane may have been the saddest man that evening among many sad ones. He never gave up faith in his comrades until the final whistle. In contrast to his fellow injured Joao Palhinha, who had already seen enough in the 89th minute and left his place early, Kane cheered on his Bayern team until the (bitter) end.
FC Bayern, outnumbered, struggles in vain against defeat
Together with the other person sitting next to him, the Bayern legend Claudio Pizarro, he acknowledged Manuel Neuer’s early red card in the 17th minute of the game with an empty, disappointed look. In Munich’s pressure phase before the break, which was not rewarded with a goal, the Englishman, like many stadium visitors, could no longer stay in his seat.
The Kompany team could not be accused of lacking fighting spirit as they were outnumbered. In the final minutes, Kane seemed to still believe in the turnaround – how much was evident after a blocked shot, when the striker’s arm shot up to show the referee that he should please award Bayern a corner kick.
But even though there was this, Bayern were no longer able to get the equalizer they actually deserved. Like all Bayern fans, Kane heard the final whistle with a fair amount of frustration. Again nothing with the cup, the Munich team are out early for the fifth time. And: Another less chance of winning the title for the best striker in the world.
