Next Monday it’s that time again: This year the players’ union FIFPro will once again choose the team of the year. Three FC Bayern players are also in the running for FIFPro World 11.
Munich – Before the team of the year is chosen next Monday, December 9th, the international players’ union for professional footballers and the world association FIFA have now published a shortlist with a total of 26 candidates. Among them, along with a number of other players, are three stars of the German record champions. The special thing about this vote: in contrast to the Ballon d’Or and other comparable awards, the World XI of the Year is chosen by the players themselves.
In addition to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane are also available. While Musiala didn’t even make it into the final selection for the Ballon d’Or, the 21-year-old can now at least hope for a place in the FIFPro World 11. The period between August 21, 2023 and July 14, 2024 is crucial for the election.
Just another Bundesliga star in the running
In addition to the three players from the German record champions, only Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong made it to the final selection from the Bundesliga. Last year, Jude Bellingham (then still in the employ of Borussia Dortmund), at least one player from the Bundesliga ultimately made it into the team of the year.

Interesting from a German perspective: Antonio Rüdiger and Toni Kroos, who has since resigned, are also on the shortlist. Next to them are superstars like Ballon d’Or winner Rodri and Vinícius Junior.
