ICAN France with the Yosomono-net association invite you on December 9, 2024 to an exceptional event, to celebrate the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Japanese association Nihon Hidankyo which carries the voice of the Hibakushas, ​​the survivors of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This evening will see the broadcast, for the very first time in France, of the documentary “The Nagasaki Postman” which traces the story of Taniguchi Sumiteru (co-founder of Nihon Hidankyo)

This documentary relates the meeting of Taniguchi and Peter Townsend, former hero of the Royal Air Force, who made known, in 1984, the story of this young boy “with the red back”, these burns (immortalized by iconic photos) that the atomic bomb inflicted on him. A book that received worldwide recognition for its gripping depiction of Taniguchi's endless rebuilding towards a new life and for its depiction of the cruelty and inhumanity of war.

In 2017, upon hearing of Taniguchi's death, Isabelle Townsend, daughter of this British hero, decided to go to Nagasaki to pay tribute to these two men who throughout their lives united their experience to raise awareness of peace and horror. nuclear weapons.
