Patrick Lefevere about Evenepoel collision: “Arm and shoulder problems and bicycle is in two”

Team manager Patrick Lefevere is shocked by the news that his golden boy was hit by a car during training. “But it is better that his bike is in half than his arm,” Lefevere estimates the damage to Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step).

“I only know that someone opened his door and Remco crashed into it.”

Patrick Lefevere only vaguely remembers what happened when we call him for an update on Remco Evenepoel.

“Someone who knows our caregiver David Geeroms saw it all happen. That’s how we found out.”

Better to split his bike in half than his arm.

Evenepoel is said to have driven into the open door of a Bpost car in Oetingen (Gooik).

“Unfortunately, such accidents happen 5 times a day, people who do not pay attention and open their door,” Lefevere sighs.

“Remco has pain in his shoulder and hand. Our doctor is working on it.”

There is also material damage. “His bike was broken in half in that incident. But it’s better to have his bike in half than his arm.”
