Atalanta continued their impressive run of results last night, defeating AS Roma 2-0 in the Eternal City.

Captain Marten de Roon opened the scoring on 69 minutes before Nicolo Zaniolo made sure the points came back to Bergamo late on.

The victory is Atalanta’s eighth in a row in all competitions. They currently sit second in Italy’s top flight, only a point behind league leaders Napoli.

Gianpiero Gasperini’s side have been in fine fettle lately, winning 11 of their last 12 matches and scoring 36 goals. The sole game of said 12 they failed to win or even net in was against, you guessed it, Celtic.

A dogged, disciplined Hoops display in Italy helped them secure a vital UEFA Champions League point, which is looking even more impressive with each passing week.

Atalanta are quite clearly an elite European side, and to secure a point against them away from home, particularly straight off the back of a mauling off Borussia Dortmund, was hugely impressive and deserves enormous credit. There is perhaps an argument to suggest it is Celtic’s best result and performance of the season so far.

In Europe, this term, the Bhoys turned a corner after their point in Italy and are now in a mightily positive position to make the last 16 playoffs. Dinamo Zagreb lie in wait next Tuesday as Brendan Rodgers’ men look to make more progress towards the illusive 10-point mark.
