The majority union, the FSU-SNUIpp, indicates that it expects 65% of strikers this Thursday.
Will many teachers be out in force against the government's draft budget this Thursday? This is, in any case, the hope of the unions. This Tuesday, the majority FSU-SNUIpp announced in a press release that it expected a social movement this week, promising that teachers responded “massively” to the call for a strike launched by the representative organizations.
“The violent attack on the measures of the Minister of the Civil Service, Guillaume Kasbarian, but also the announcements of job cuts resonate strongly in the country's schools”indicates the FSU-SNUIpp. The union, which points to the degraded working conditions of teachers, is counting on “thousands of schools” closed on Thursday, and considers that it is “urgent to change gear”. “In the absence of reaction, the
profession will continue to mobilize in the weeks and months to come”he also warns.
Teachers will not be the only ones to take to the streets on Thursday. On the occasion of the “day of action, rallies, demonstrations and strike” organized to block the government's savings projects, the CGT, CFDT, UNSA, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC and FA-FP are calling for a walkout. Disruptions are expected in energy, hospitals, as well as several public services, such as in the territorial sector or in canteens, for example. This social movement could win its case quickly: in the event of a vote on the motions of censure which will be debated on Wednesday, the government of Michel Barnier will fall, and the financial texts with it.
