Discover the new collector's edition of the Freebox Ultra in more detail

The Freebox Ultra is adorned with a brand new color for the 25th anniversary of Free, but not only that. A few small changes are there for the collector's edition.

Whether you are a new subscriber or already equipped with a Freebox, you can get the new limited edition of the Freebox Ultra. Free is indeed offering, to celebrate its 25th anniversary, a brand new design for its most recent box.

The first change is very visible and you will not have missed it: the shell is red and transparent, with a clear inspiration from the operator of Xavier Niel: the design” recalls iconic technological products of the 90s such as the iMac G3 or the Game Boy Color“. A shell that reveals the components of the high-end box.

But that's not the only change made to the Freebox Ultra. Indeed, an LED strip has also been integrated into the case, inspired by RGB customizations such as on computer towers, keyboards, mice, etc. It can be activated or deactivated, but it also offers six display modes: static, breathing , rain, wave, organic and chase. If you want to get an idea of what the animations look like, Free's dedicated page on its collector's box offers you a tool to view them.

The LED strip can be controlled from the Freebox Connect application and the lighting and its intensity can be adjusted from the application. Free also explains that the animation mode that is activated by default is switching on in Organic mode, which is the least energy-consuming with “only 0.5 watts/hour additional power consumption“.

The packaging has also been personalized for the occasion, with a monochrome red sheath with a matte and glossy finish for the Freebox card packaging. Free also claims to have chosen to use water-based inks and to limit the number of colors “so that the sheath is fully recyclable“, while having “favored French manufacturing to reduce transport-related emissions“.
