The day was eventful to say the least. Bellée hamlet in Saint-Lô d'Ourville, delegated municipality of Port-Bail-sur-Mer (Manche).

Many motorists reported on social networks the presence of numerous gendarmes in an area which had to be quickly cordoned off. It was around 8 h 30.

Hunting weapons

A troubled man had taken refuge alone in his mother's home where hunting weapons were available.

The GIGN as reinforcement

The situation was so worrying that the men of the regional branch of the GIGN, an intervention group of the national gendarmerie, based in (), were called in as reinforcements alongside the personnel of the Cherbourg gendarmerie company. -en-Cotentin in the event of an intervention becoming necessary.

Negotiations

For a good part of the day, the gendarmerie negotiators took turns to maintain negotiations with the individual who threatened to end his life.

Unfortunately, at the end of the afternoon, the 65 year old man turned the gun on himself. The security perimeter was lifted by the authorities.
